Thompson School District is piloting new math curricula in K-5th grades this semester. If you have students that will be using this new program, please pay close attention and be sure to offer feedback to teachers and administrators.
#evaluatethat is being used to show what teachers do in their everyday lives that goes beyond a bubble test. Great teachers write notes to students throughout the summer. They understand the differences in the children they teach and make them feel special, not excluded. They stand between their students and gunmen. They show up at hospitals. They speak into the life of a child when nobody else does.
We all have at least one teacher we remember, one who made a difference that we remember long into our adult lives. Celebrate greatness and tweet your #evalatethatstory to us @coreconcerns. This is the THIRD time that the House Ed hearing on 1039 has been postponed. This bill will define data collection and retention procedures for early learners – that's preK. For additional Race to the Top funding, the state is to collect and retain data on these little guys. We defy anyone who would exploit these littlest learners. Become an expert on this initiative and use social media to tell us what you learn. Mark your calendars, show up en mass. If it happens to fall over spring break, that's a great time to show kids the legislative process and perhaps remind the representatives what is at stake.
Our SB136 bill to delay Common Core and PARCC was defeated, but not without generating much discussion and bringing our concerns to the forefront. Below outlines vote results of the Senate Ed Committee:
The Poudre School District Board of Ed conducted a work session on Common Core last week. The PSD board is doing an exceptional job of looking out for local students and protecting the local control that has made this district a high-performing district year after year. Please honor their efforts and partner with them as we work to maintain local control in this new arena. That's really all we want - the options to continue teaching our kids the way that is best for our local culture.
