We are being proactive as HB1202 is slated to soon be heard in the House Ed Committee. As written, HB1202 does not ask to pause implementation of PARCC while the study is conducted. We would like an amendment to the bill asking for a moratorium on PARCC implementation pending results of the study. Speaker Ferrandino has the ultimate power to add an amendment to this bill. We believe he has learned more about the huge implications of the new PARCC assessment and the growing public support for a delay or opt-out of the PARCC test.
TODAY - please send an e-mail to Speaker Ferrandino at [email protected]. In your own words, let him know that you are concerned about how much we are over testing our kids, how PARCC is an unproven and expensive, high stakes test. Let him know that standardized tests are not a good measure of academic success. Explain that we all share concerns for children, teachers, and the future of Colorado. Finally, ask him as Speaker of the House, someone who is a respected leader, to take the lead and help parents throughout the state. Make sure he understands how much you appreciate his efforts and that we will stand with him as he takes leadership in supporting a delay of PARCC, or at least an opt-out option. We need his support, so please be kind and reverent.
Thank you for your help - the more information that goes out and the more people actively listening, the better opportunity we have to protect Colorado kids from federal intrusion.
